Richard Tracey, GLA Member for Merton and Wandsworth, has told Boris Johnson at Mayor's Question Time to say no to 10pm closures of the Northern Line.
Tube Lines, the company tasked with delivering upgrades on the route, have asked for the closures to complete the upgrade. Tube Lines have failed to give the necessary seven-month notice under contractual rules in which to ask for additional closures.
Richard Tracey said: "Tube Lines have failed to get their act together. Just like with the Jubilee Line, this would mean more travel misery for commuters. I urge the Mayor to say no to Tube Lines' request. Anyone who remembers the massive disruption from extended early termination of services on the Victoria Line will know this request is a non-starter.
"These proposed works will hit those commuters who live at the extreme ends of the line both North and South. It isn't fair that those of my constituents who need to get to Tooting, Wimbledon, and Morden should be put to even more inconvenience. If Tube Lines can't deliver in the programmed timetable, tough. They should incur the financial penalties, not push inconvenience and misery onto the travelling public"
