London Assembly Member Richard Tracey reports back after an unsuccessful meeting with Met Commissioner
At a meeting held at City Hall today Richard Tracey AM told Met Commissioner Sir Paul Stephenson how Wandsworth residents are complaining about the noise made by police helicopters in the early hours of the morning.
Commenting, Mr Tracey said: "Many residents, particularly in Wandsworth, have complained to me about droning helicopters overhead during the night and in the early hours of the morning - sometimes for an hour or more."
Speaking after the MPA meeting, Mr Tracey, the Assembly Member for Merton and Wandsworth said: "I am unhappy with the answer the Commissioner gave me, it's not good enough to say disruption is just part of living in London.
"I would like the Met Police to look again at reducing the nuisance noise caused by its helicopters. If early morning flying is harming the quality of life of my residents, then it's only fair to ask the Police to justify themselves.
"Maybe the height at which helicopters fly, during routine surveillance work and when circling the prison, needs to be reviewed? "
